Pinning Pinterest

Researching Pinterest gave me the opportunity to learn more about the social media platform that I did not previously know. There were aspects of the application that I never knew existed. For example, there is an option to take a photo of an object and search for pins similar to that photo.

It was really great working with my group on this project. While we all had our own separate parts, we each contributed to every aspect of the project. My part consisted of teaching others how to use Pinterest, as well as giving an overview of all of our research. However, in that, I got to explore the positives and negatives of Pinterest and look into the history and background of it too.

I have personally always enjoyed Pinterest. I've had mine for several years. I use it for recipes, workouts, and cute pictures of dogs. I also use it for future planning, like cute ideas for a wedding, or a future home, or parenting tips. It is so diverse with its content and perhaps that is what makes it so interesting.

Many times, the experiences that I have had in this class have made me want to give up social media, or at least certain platforms like Facebook and Instagram. However, looking into Pinterest did not have that effect on me. It actually had the opposite effect. I really enjoyed Pinterest and I enjoyed the research we found on it. I love that the CEO did not design it to be a social media network that consumes hours of one's day. Rather, his purpose in designing it was to get people out and about, experiencing life.

I love taking what I learn / see on Pinterest and being able to use it. It brings me such joy. I have successful completed many recipes, DIY crafts, and bulletin boards based on what I have seen on there. It is definitely something I recommend to others to use.

Overall, this psychological impact of social media course has taught me a lot about the pros and cons of social media. It shows that we have the power to make it good or bad, to use it to build up or to destroy. The power is in our hands and it's up to us what we do with that power.

Thanks for a great semester!
